狐狸：咦!难道是在别的星球上?有猎人吗?有鸡吗?小王子：是的，在别的星球上。
但是即没有猎人，也没有鸡。
小王子：我很愿意!但我的时间不多，我还要寻找朋友，还要了解许多新鲜的事物。
狐狸：人只认识自己驯养的东西。
人再没时间认识什么事物。
他们到商店里买现成的东西，但没有一家商店出售朋友。
人也就没有朋友了。
如果你想要朋友，你就驯养我吧。
小王子：我该做什么?狐狸：需要非常的耐心。
首先你要离我稍远点，坐着，像这样，坐在草地上。
我斜瞟着你，你什么也别对我说。
语言是误会的源泉。
可是每天你可以坐得稍近一些。
你最好在同一个时间来看我。
如果你是下午四点钟来，从三点钟开始，我就开始感觉到幸福的滋味了。
越接近四点钟，我越觉得幸福。
到了四点钟，我就心神恍惚，坐立不安。
我发现了幸福的价值，但是如果你不按时来，我就不知道几点钟该装扮我的心，仪式还是需要的。
小王子：什么叫做仪式?狐狸：这也是一件被人遗忘干净的事情。
仪式就是使得某一日不同于其他日子，某一个小时不同别的小时。
比如说：猎人们有一个仪式，每逢星期四，他们就与村里的姑娘们跳舞，星期四就成了再美妙不过的日子!我也就可以到葡萄园里去闲逛了。
如果猎人跳舞不挑日子，每一天都一样，我就没有假期了。
小王子：现在，我要走了!狐狸：啊，我想哭了。
小王子：这就是你的不对了。
我一点也不想伤害你，但你却要我驯养你。
你一无所获了。
狐狸：我有收获。
我得到了小麦的颜色。
现在，你去探望玫瑰吧，你就会明白，你的玫瑰花是世界上独一无二的花儿。
然后你回来与我告别，我会送你一桩秘密作为礼物。
小王子对玫瑰：你们一点也不像我的玫瑰，你们还无足轻重，没有人驯养你们，你们也没有驯养任何人。
你们的今天如同我狐狸的昨天。
昨天的他与千千万万只狐狸一样，但自从我认他做了我的朋友，他就是世上绝无仅有的狐狸了。
你们长得很美，但你们的感情世界一片空白。
没有人为你们而死。
不错，行人会认为我的玫瑰与你们没有两样。
但只有她比你们重要。
因为我给她浇了水，我给她盖过花罩，我给她竖起屏风，给她避风挡雨。
我为她杀死了几条毛虫。
我倾听她的抱怨，或她的吹嘘，有时也看着她默默无语的样子。
因为她是我的玫瑰。
狐狸：别了。
小王子：别了狐狸：我的秘密是一句话：用心去看才能看清楚，用眼睛是看不见本质的东西的。

狐狸：人忘记了这条真理。
但你不该忘。
你应该永远对你驯养的对象负责，你要对你的玫瑰负责。
