名言:很出名的说法,著名的话.即使不是名人说的话,也一定是流传甚广、很有名的句子.但不一定有很深刻的教育意义.如“儿多母苦,盐多菜苦”.格言:含有教育意义可为准则的字句.具有深刻的教育、警示作用.如“人生的价值,并不是用时间,而是用深度去衡量的 —— 列夫·托尔斯泰”.有时二者很难区分,绝大多数名言亦是格言,同时很多深入人心的格言亦是名言.但如果非要区分的话,一是格言一定含有教育意义,名言可以没有(但事实上名言均有一定的教育意义,可以视为格言);二是有些格言并不为人深知,也就算不得名言,如“别想一下造出大海,必须先由小河川开始”.
